Mundan invitation wording in Hindi and English

A Mundan invitation should tell guests whose ceremony they are attending, when to arrive and where to go. If the ceremony and meal have different times or venues, show both clearly. A warm opening is enough; the practical details should be easy to find.

Below are eight original examples for cards, videos and WhatsApp, including Hindi and English wording, a temple ceremony and a meal-only invitation. Replace every bracketed field, remove lines that do not apply and use the ceremony name your family actually uses.

Common wording questions

Before you choose the wording

Write down the child’s name, the hosts’ names, the full date with year, the arrival time, the ceremony venue and a reply contact. Add the meal time and address only if the recipient is invited to the meal. Write “morning” or “evening”, or use AM and PM, rather than leaving the time open to interpretation.

Choose an opening that fits the hosts. “We invite you” suits parents or other hosts; “the family invites you” works for a joint invitation. Include grandparents’ names when the family wants them included, without implying that they are hosting if they are not.

For Hindi, “मुंडन संस्कार” or “मुंडन समारोह” can be used according to the family’s preference. Include a prayer or devotional opening only if it suits the ceremony. These examples do not prescribe rituals, the child’s age or an auspicious date.

1 Traditional Hindi invitation from the family

Use this when the card is sent on behalf of the family. The opening leaves space for a devotional line if your family wants one.

Keep “सपरिवार” only when the invitation includes the recipient’s family. Otherwise replace it with the invited people’s names.

2 Simple English invitation from the hosts

Use this for a card that needs a short opening without religious wording.

Please join us for [Child’s name]’s Mundan ceremony. We would be happy to have you with us as we celebrate this family occasion.

Date: [Day, date, month, year]
Please arrive by: [Time, AM or PM]
Venue: [Venue name, full address, city]
With love, [Hosts’ names]
Please let [Contact name and number] know by [Reply date] whether you can join us.

If the hosts are the child’s parents, their names can appear beneath the opening. Avoid adding “our son” or “our daughter” unless that is how the family wants to describe the child.

3 Hindi invitation for a temple ceremony and a meal elsewhere

Use separate lines when guests need to travel between venues. Add only confirmed times, and allow for the journey when planning the schedule.

Send a separate map link for each venue. Check the actual temple entrance and the meal venue rather than relying on two similar place names.

4 English invitation for a home ceremony and lunch

Use this when both parts of the gathering are at the same address. Remove the lunch line if no meal is planned.

We invite you to [Child’s name]’s Mundan ceremony at our home. Please join us for the ceremony and stay for lunch afterwards.

Date: [Day, date, month, year]
Please arrive by: [Time, AM or PM]
Ceremony begins: [Time, AM or PM]
Lunch: [Time, AM or PM], at the same address
Address: [House or flat number, building, street, area, city]
Hosted by: [Hosts’ names]
Please reply to [Contact name and number] by [Reply date] to let us know whether you can attend.

An arrival time and a ceremony start time are useful only when they are genuinely different. If they are the same, keep one clearly labelled time.

5 Hindi invitation from grandparents

Use this only when the grandparents are hosting or sending the invitation. Their names appear as the hosts below.

If the parents are hosting, keep them as the main hosts and add a separate line naming the grandparents, if the family wishes.

6 English invitation to the meal after a private ceremony

Use this when the guest is invited to the celebration meal, while the ceremony itself is a smaller family gathering. Do not send the ceremony’s time or address as though it is part of this invitation.

Following [Child’s name]’s Mundan ceremony with close family, we would love you to join us for lunch to celebrate the occasion.

Date: [Day, date, month, year]
Lunch begins: [Time, AM or PM]
Venue: [Venue name, full address, city]
With warm wishes, [Hosts’ names]
Please let [Contact name and number] know by [Reply date] whether you can come.

Change “lunch” to “dinner” if needed. Clear wording helps guests understand exactly which gathering they are invited to.

7 Short Hindi message for WhatsApp

Use this alongside an invitation card or video. It keeps the essential details searchable in the chat.

If someone else is collecting replies, replace “इसी नंबर पर” with that person’s name and number.

8 Short English message for WhatsApp

Use this when you are sending a personal message rather than a formal card-style invitation.

Hi [Guest’s name], please join us for [Child’s name]’s Mundan ceremony on [Day, date, month, year] at [Time, AM or PM], [Venue and address, city]. We’ve attached the invitation. Directions: [Map link]. Please reply here by [Reply date] to let us know whether you can come. With love, [Hosts’ names].

Name the invited people if the invitation does not include the whole household. Do not rely on the card or video alone to communicate the date and venue.

Put the wording into a card or video

For a video, divide the information into short sections rather than placing a complete paragraph on one screen. A practical sequence is:

  • Opening: “You are invited” or “सादर आमंत्रण”.
  • Child and occasion: “[Name]’s Mundan ceremony” or “[नाम] का मुंडन संस्कार”.
  • Ceremony details: full date, arrival time and venue.
  • Meal details: a separate screen if the time or venue differs.
  • Closing: hosts’ names and the reply contact.

This is a wording outline, not a promise that every design has five screens. Match the text to the selected sample. If you want Hindi and English together, check the available space and language support before ordering; two crowded versions on one screen can be difficult to read.

Check the details before sending

Read the invitation once as a guest. Can you tell when to arrive, whether a meal is included and which address to use? Then check these details with the hosts:

  • Every bracketed field has been replaced, and the child’s name is spelled consistently in both languages.
  • The day matches the date, the year is included and morning or evening is clear.
  • Ceremony and meal times are labelled separately when needed.
  • The invited people and events match the message being sent.
  • The reply contact is someone who will actually collect the responses.
  • Hindi letters, names and addresses remain readable when the final card or video is opened on a phone.

Use Google Maps’ sharing instructions to copy a location link, then open it and check the destination yourself. For a PDF, our guide to adding Google Maps and RSVP links explains the linking steps. Share a private home address and contact details only with the intended guests.

Common wording questions

Should I write Mundan or first haircut

Use the name your family uses for the occasion. “Mundan ceremony” is clear for guests familiar with it. Add “first haircut ceremony” as an explanation only if that description is accurate for your child and event.

Does every invitation need a prayer

No. A simple invitation with the child’s name and confirmed event details works well. If you include a prayer, shloka or devotional line, ask the family to check the exact wording rather than adding one purely for decoration.

Can the same wording be used in Hindi and English

Yes, but check both versions against one set of confirmed details. Names, dates, times, places and invitation scope must agree. Keep each version readable, and confirm the chosen design supports the language and text length.

What if the ceremony and meal have different guest lists

Prepare separate messages. Include only the events the recipient is invited to. The meal-only example above is clearer than sending a full programme and expecting the guest to guess which parts apply.

Choose the example that matches your gathering, confirm the details with the hosts and keep the final invitation easy to read. The wording should help guests join you without needing to ask where, when or which part of the celebration you mean.
